Some people have not waited for the Future to arrive. Michael Hart has spent the last thirty years of his life creating the Gutenberg Project, and they currently contain a vast repository of freely accessible electronic text versions of books. Hundreds of them.
If you want to find out what kinds of etexts are available today, Gutenberg is a good place to start. I'll put some others in here later.
A distinct, but related class of electronic text information is that of the pictorial servers, which present images of pages. This is more often a straightforward to recapture our past than to look forward to our future; but it has its uses!
