Catch the Corflu Wave

Walnut Creek Marriott

2355 North Main Street
Walnut Creek, CA 94596-3547
(510) 934-2000
(800) 228-9290

Our room block went off on February 28th but you can still make reservations and hope for the best. With luck you can still get a room up with the rest of us. If the hotel says there are no rooms, contact us (corflu@sfsfc.org ) and we'll see what we can do.

Room Rates: Rates are $85/night, flat rate. Be sure to tell them you're with Corflu to get the convention rate. The consuite will be on the Concierge Floor and our rooms will be blocked up there as well. Free parking is available at the hotel. If you're looking for a roommate, contact Corflu at corflu@sfsfc.org and we'll try to match you up.

Concierge level: Corflu rooms will be automatically blocked on the Concierge level. But don't say anything about the Concierge level when you make your reservation, because the clerks get terribly confused and will tell you things like "It isn't possible" or "That will cost more." It's not true, but they don't have access to our contract to know that. So just tell them you're part of Corflu, say nothing about the Concierge level, and all will be well. (Yes, this is a change. They said at first we should tell you to ask for the Concierge level, and now they say not to.)

Personal opinion of the web designer here: Ok, folks, you've all been to conventions before. You know the drill. Make your reservation. Give them the information they want. Get your confimation number. And when you get to the hotel, gather around with everyone else and complain about how they screwed up your reservation, while the poor, harried convention hotel liaison tries to sort it all out with the brand-new, temporary management brought in just for our little convention. And eventually we'll all get to party.

But don't let me discourage you! Early bookings are still encouraged.

Note to any Marriott hotel person reading this: The above was intended strictly as humor. Any resemblance to real-life people or situations was almost completely accidental. The opinions expressed belong to me, Karen Schaffer, and not to the Corflu committee or convention. So go ahead, do your worst to me! Put me next to the service elevator! Set my wake up call for 5 in the morning! Turn the room heat up full blast! Ha ha! Hee hee! Ho ho. . . .

Pre/Post-Con Days: The con rate is good for contiguous days surrounding the con. However, the Marriott's computer seems to have trouble with this. Apparently there is no way to tell it this without putting in a block, so the hotel has told the computer to use the dates March 10-19. You can get the con rate for additional days beyond that. If you have any trouble doing so, contact the hotel directly at 510-927-1107 and ask for Launa Medford. Note that this is a different number than the one listed above.

Airports: The nearest airports to Walnut Creek are San Francisco (SFO) and Oakland. Oakland is closer although it has fewer (and often more expensive) flights. There are regular shuttle services from both airports to the hotel.

Shuttle Service: We've gotten some excellent rates from Black Tie Airport Express: $13 for Oakland (each way) and $18 for San Francisco (each way). Shuttles depart about once an hour and take approximately an hour to/from San Francisco airport and 45 minutes to/from the Oakland airport. Beware that it will take longer during rush hour traffic, 7 to 10 am and 4 to 7 pm.

Important: You MUST make reservations and you MUST tell them you are with Corflu to get these rates!

At Oakland airport: Buses stop across the street from terminals 1 and 2, on the center island. Proceed to the "scheduled shuttles" sign.

At San Francisco airport: Exit from the lower level by baggage claim to the street. Cross to the center island and proceed to the green and white curb at the pillars.

Using Public Transportation

Without a doubt the cheapest way to get from the airport is to use public transportation. It's slower and a bit more hassle.

From San Francisco Airport

Take the SamTrans 3X bus to the Colma Bart station. The 3X buses have luggage racks. The fare is $1. Buses leave every 20 to 40 minutes. From Colma take BART (the Bay Area's public train system) to the Walnut Creek station. The fare will be $3.45. Travel time to Colma is about 20 minutes and another 55 minutes on BART. The BART station is about 2 short blocks to the hotel. Its best to avoid commute times (6-9 AM and 4-7 PM) if you have luggage.

If you don't feel like walking, the hotel will provide free, local transportation to any hotel guests.

From Oakland Airport

In front of the terminal you will see signs for the AirBART shuttle. Be sure to buy your ticket ($2) before you get on the shuttle. The shuttle will leave you off at the Coliseum BART (the Bay Area's public train system) station. Go into the station and buy a $2.25 BART ticket. Then head for the Richmond train. Take this train to 12th Street. Transfer there to the Bay Point train. Get off at the Walnut Creek Station.

If you don't feel like walking, the hotel will provide free transportation to any hotel guests.
